Fibocom SC228 module features

Boosting Global 5G Scale Commercialization with Affordable 5G NR Light Modules

Fibocom launched its RedCap module series in the first half of 2023 and demonstrated the full portfolio at this event. Compliant with 3GPP R17 standard, Fibocom RedCap modules FG131 and FG132 series support 5G SA globally, featuring different regions and global versions. RedCap modules can deliver significant reductions in 5G terminal costs and power consumption. While inheriting the exceptional performance of 5G, it perfectly caters to the demands of high-speed and low-power IoT industries.

From the speed perspective, FG131 and FG132 can reach the maximum downlink peak at 226Mbps, and the maximum uplink peak at 121Mbps in a 5G SA network. Regarding form factor compatibility, the FG131 series is compatible with Fibocom LTE Cat 6 modules and the FG132 series is compatible with Fibocom LTE Cat 4 modules. Fibocom announces a regional version of FG360 5G module series, the variant FG360-MEA is designed to support the frequency bands in the Middle East and Africa, allowing telecom operators and device manufacturers to deploy the 5G solution in a fast and cost-effective manner.

Fibocom FG360-MEA is a high-performance Sub-6GHz 5G module tailor-made for the Middle East and Africa market. Incorporating optional 6 or 8 antenna configurations, along with 2 x 2.5G SGMII and 4 x PCIe Gen 3 on the interface settings, allowing customers to apply flexible hardware designs based on the diversified market demands. Based on the Qualcomm® QCM4490 Processor, Fibocom SC151-GL is the industry-first 5G smart module that supports mainstream frequency bands under 5G network architecture worldwide, which is crucial for customers that require global roaming on their devices to deploy the smart wireless solution faster, more efficient compared to the regional versions.

Fibocom SC151-GL provides a comprehensive smart wireless solution empowered by the Qualcomm® QCM4490 Processor. Compliant with 3GPP Release 16, the module is capable of offering Gigabit 5G experience, in addition to the support of Wi-Fi 6/6E, allowing the connections of multiple end devices simultaneously as well as the high-capacity of data throughput, these features can significantly improve the uplink performance, especially for the latency-sensitive scenarios like warehouse management and manufacturing detection. In terms of network utilization, the SC151-GL is also backward compatible with 4G/3G bands in addition to the compatability of 5G SA/NSA and EN-DC. It is worth highlighting that the module delivers a power-efficient solution for end devices enabled by the added-value TWT (Target Wake Time).

Fibocom Wireless Inc., a global leading provider of IoT (Internet of Things) wireless solutions and wireless communication modules, announces that the FG360 5G module has successfully received certification from another major US carrier.

The module is now qualified to provide wireless connection services under the US nationwide 5G network, and is capable of offering stable, seamless broadband connectivity to massive-data scenarios like FWA (Fixed Wireless Access), IIoT (Industrial IoT), intelligent robotics and telemedicine in the North American market.

Fibocom FG360 module is featuring on high integrity and reliability, designed to provide excellent 5G performance with up to 4.67Gbps downlink and 1.25Gbps uplink speed. Supporting global frequency bands & ENDC, the module has developed two versions FG360-NA and FG360-EAU adapting to regional markets. It’s worth mentioning that the module supports 5G Sub-6GHz 2CC CA (Carrier Aggregation) up to 200MHz frequency to improve the utilization of spectrum resources and ensure extended 5G coverage.

Based on the Qualcomm® QCM4490 Processor, Fibocom SC151 can be used in a wide range of 5G AIoT scenarios in the global market, it is an ideal wireless solution for terminals such as industrial handhelds, point-of-sale devices, body-worn cameras, PoC (push to talk over cellular), etc.

Compliant with 3GPP Release 16 standard, Fibocom SC151 adopts a high-performance octa-core processor that allows applications to run smoothly, integrates a high-performance graphics engine to allow smooth video playing and multi-channel camera input. In addition to select AI capabilities, Fibocom SC151 extends its 5G connectivity by supporting DL 4×4 MIMO as well as UL 2×2 MIMO, roaming under both 5G SA and NSA network architectures, allowing backward compatability with 4G/3G bands.

SC151 also extends its advancements by supporting 2.4G+5G WLAN and Wi-Fi 6E, plus DBS (Dual Band Simultaneous) to increase the overall capacity and performance. Benefitting from the Qualcomm QCM4490 processor and its 3GPP release 16 capabilities that enable international carrier support, there are five variants of SC151 module series to support regional frequency bands in EMEA, Americas, APAC, etc.

The module also supports multi-constellation GNSS (GPS(L1+L5 Dual Frequency Bands)/GLONASS/BeiDou), which significantly improves position accuracy in mobile scenarios while greatly simplifying product design. SC151 is equipped with Android 13 operating system in preparation for subsequent OS upgrades in the future. Powered by Sony’s Altair, best in class ALT1350 chipset, the Fibocom MS18 module series is designed to provide ultra-low power consumption and reliable wireless connectivity for the 5G massive IoT market.

With optimized power consumption, Fibocom MS18 series is a SOC integrated LPWA module with an AI engine for edge processing, supports the latest 3GPP Release 14 through 17 of LTE-M/NB-IoT, unlicensed spectrum communications protocols, Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) satellite communications, Wi-Fi SSID-based location, and Short-range radio. MS18 series will also adopt a compact footprint of less than 200 sq millimeters to be best utilized in the 5G Massive Machine Type Communication (MTC) applications such as smart metering, asset tracking and connected health. Fibocom Wireless Inc., a global leading provider of IoT (Internet of Things) wireless solutions and wireless communication modules, in cooperation with MediaTek Inc., the leading global fabless chipmaker, to launch the “Fast-to-deploy” one-stop solution for FWA based on the 5G Sub-6GHz module FG370 at MWC Barcelona 2023.

The innovative “Fast-to-deploy” 5G FWA solution includes the reference designs of two forms of FWA devices, CPE and MiFi, integrating with Fibocom 5G Sub-6GHz module FG370, significantly simplifying the hardware design of FWA devices and reducing the time to market. Leveraging multiple key features of the latest advanced Wi-Fi 7 technology, the CPE supports tri-band Wi-Fi 7 solution delivers a high throughput and seamless in-home connectivity, while the MiFi supports dual-band Wi-Fi 7 solution brings a reliable and stable network connectivity for mobile hotspot users.

It is worth mentioning that the FG370 was firstly-introduced to the market in October 2022, certified by GCF and CE in early January 2023, now it is ready for mass production. By utilizing the powerful quad-core Arm Cortex-A55 CPU on MediaTek’s T830, FG370 supports 4CC CA (Carrier Aggregation) and up to 300MHz of spectrum, as well as 2CC CA and up to 200MHz of spectrum, significantly improves the utilization of spectrum resources and ensures an extended 5G coverage. In addition to new features such as 8RX (Receive Antennas) and Power Class 1.5 (PC1.5) High Power User Equipment (HPUE), FG370 module is capable of delivering maximum 7.01Gbps on the downlink and 2.5Gbps on the uplink.

Powered by Snapdragon X75 and X72, and a quad-core A55 CPU, Fibocom Fx190/Fx180 series provide superior 5G experience especially for FWA applications, offering optimized power consumption and multiple Wi-Fi 7 selections, furtherly reducing the time to market.

Compliant with 3GPP Release 17 standard, Fibocom FG190(W)/FM190(W) module series are adopting LGA and M.2 form factors into module design, efficiently driving the flexibility and scalability in a various of IoT terminal devices. By leveraging the spectrum resources for a broader reach of faster speeds, the module series support Sub-6 GHz and mmWave dual-connectivity, as well as NR 10CA with up to 1000MHz bandwidth in the mmWave frequency band, significantly boosting the maximum downlink speed of up to 10Gbps.

In addition to the Fx190 series, Fibocom launches the FG180(W)/FM180(W) series based on the Snapdragon X72, which supports up to 400MHz bandwidth of NR 4CA under mmwave bands, and 200MHz bandwidth of NR 3CA under Sub-6GHz, the maximum downlink rate under the aggregation of the two can reach 4.4Gbps. The module also supports Power Class 1.5 (PC1.5) High Power User Equipment (HPUE), which allows a maximum transmit power of up to 29dBm, 6dB higher than that of PC3, and 3dB higher than that of PC2, significantly increasing uplink speed and extending uplink coverage. With enhancements in terms of uplink and downlink speed and coverage, FG370 can provide a better user experience while offering seamless 5G connectivity for FWA.

It is worth noting that, FG370 can support enhanced connectivity solutions, including Dual-band 2×2 Wi-Fi 7 for MiFi (BE6500) and Tri-band 4×4 Wi-Fi 7 for CPE (BE19000). These solutions feature new Wi-Fi 7 capabilities such as 160MHz/ 320MHz bandwidth, 6GHz frequency band, 4096 QAM, as well as Multi-Link Operation (MLO). The module also supports wired network deployment, allowing maximum 10Gb Ethernet, satisfying different application requirements.

With a rich extension of interfaces including 10GbE USXGMII/ PCI-Express/ USB 3.2, plus PCM/SPI for connection to external SLIC for RJ11 phone ports, FG370 seamlessly enables a wide range of IoT applications, providing high-speed 5G experience for customers. The module also integrates MediaTek’s 5G UltraSave technologies to optimize energy efficiency for 5G connections, especially 5G MiFi.

On day 1 of MWC Vegas 2022, Fibocom has launched the 5G Sub-6GHz and mmWave module FX170(W) series. Powered by Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF System, the 3GPP Release16-compliant module series is designed to offer fiber-like wireless connectivity experience with technology enhancements including NR CA (Carrier Aggregation), 4×4 MIMO, PC1.5 and more.

Besides, Fibocom wireless modules have successfully received certifications from carriers in North America and Latin America carriers. The new generation of FG360-NA 5G module has been certified by T-Mobile, further empowering the deployment of 5G FWA with enhanced Radio Frequency (RF) and antenna design under T-Mobile’s nationwide 5G network. In addition, the LTE-A module FM101-NA has been certified by Verizon, which, with high reliability and extended applicability, can boost highly efficient connectivity for IoT applications by leveraging Verizon’s LTE network. Fibocom 5G modules FG160/ FM160 have completed commercial network testing under two of the largest Brazilian carriers’ 5G SA networks.

Driving Innovation for FWA with Industry-leading 5G/ LTE Modules

Apart from various wireless communication modules, Fibocom has demonstrated the best-in-class module solutions for the global FWA market. The tracker, integrating Fibocom Cat 1 bis module L610, can be used for heavy vehicles fleet management and tracking.
