Verizon Wireless and Axeda Announce Alliance for Global M2M Solutions

Axeda® Platform Provides Key Application Development Capabilities for Verizon Wireless Machine to Machine Management Center.

Verizon Wireless and Axeda Corporation today announced an alliance to speed the development and deployment of global machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions.

By combining Verizon Wireless’ leading wireless network with Axeda’s proven cloud application development platform, the alliance provides a unified and scalable global M2M infrastructure –  helping to eliminate today’s device- and network-centric technology silos (network, edge device, application, and IT infrastructure) – making it efficient for customers to develop and deploy complete connected product solutions.

The Verizon Wireless Machine to Machine Management Center already makes it easy for enterprise customers to activate and manage connected devices deployed around the country and around the world,” said Janet Schijns, vice president, Business Solutions Group, Verizon Wireless.  “Through our alliance with Axeda, we are simplifying the process even more by providing our customers with access to a cloud-based, enterprise-class M2M application development platform that can scale to millions of devices – essentially creating a one-stop shop.

With industry estimates projecting upwards of 50 billion connected devices by 2020*, companies are racing to take advantage of transformative M2M business opportunities in markets such as fleet management, mobile health, usage-based insurance, remote services and smart grid.  The Verizon Wireless and Axeda alliance provides a communication-optimized platform on which to rapidly build and deploy M2M application, while at the same time helping to reduce complexity and shorten time-to-market for powerful solutions.

Through our relationship with Verizon Wireless, Axeda customers will have access to a best of breed mobile broadband network, which is vital to the success of any M2M implementation,” said David Canavan, vice president of business development, Axeda.  “They will also be able to take advantage of Verizon Wireless’ advanced subscription management platform and extensive ecosystem of supported M2M devices.

Verizon Wireless and Axeda will show a live demonstration of a custom fleet management solution this week at CTIA (nPhase Booth #1675 in the M2M Zone Pavilion).  The Axeda Platform will monitor two vehicles – one in the U.K. and one in the United States – with data flowing across both the Verizon Wireless and Vodafone networks.  The cars will be equipped with CalAmp LMU fleet tracking units and provisioned through the nPhase service management platform.

The M2M market is poised for tremendous growth across many different industries,” said Gene Signori, vice president, enterprise research, Yankee Group.  “Companies have historically been encumbered by the cost and complexity of bringing M2M solutions to market.  Cooperation among technology leaders such as Verizon Wireless, Axeda and other key partners will be critical to making it simpler and more cost-effective to deliver solutions – benefitting developers, enterprises, and end-users alike.
