Think AirBnB or Grab for telcos: if I have an empty room, power and internet why would I not use it as a network tower?” said Viet Nguyen, founder and CEO of VIoT Group.

“VIoT Group collaborates with partners and household owners in strategic locations to roll out Helium’s The People Network. Our goal is to be the first to leverage this opportunity in Vietnam for corporations and local governments that aim to benefit from the most cost-effective and highly secured blockchain-powered IoT backbone network.”

The company said the initial deployment phase of its LoRaWAN® IoT network, including approximately 350 Kerlink gateways, will be completed by the end of May and will cover six Vietnamese cities and municipalities this year. The second phase, will install approximately 1,400 additional Kerlink gateways, is expected to be completed by the end of 2022 and cover 10 more cities in 2023.

More broadly, the company will market its nationwide managed IoT network for turnkey solutions mixing sensors, connectivity, integration, and applications, such as smart lighting and smart metering, in a single open IoT platform.

Called “The People’s Network”, Helium technology uses the company’s LongFi™ architecture that combines the LoRaWAN® wireless protocol (200 times the coverage of the WiFi protocol) with the Helium blockchain, enabling any LoRaWAN® device to transfer data on the Helium network. This connection provides public, long-range and low-power wireless coverage for LoRaWAN®-enabled IoT sensors and devices because LongFi’s roaming capabilities support micropayment transactions so customers pay only based on network usage.

“Individuals worldwide have used Helium’s network to create more than 642,000 hotspots,” said Rene Arbefeuille, Kerlink’s vice president for Asia Pacific.

“The connected hotspots provide cities with miles of low-power network coverage for billions of devices and are paid in Helium’s cryptocurrency, HNT. Kerlink’s industrial-grade indoor Wirnet™ iFemtoCell and Wirnet™ iFemtoCell-evolution, as well as carrier-grade outdoor Wirnet™ iStation IoT gateways, have been enabling the use of HNT cryptocurrency mining on the LoRaWAN® protocol for the past year.”

  • MNTD. by RAKwireless moves forward to serve new locations and expand The People’s Network even further across the globe.
  • Since 2020, RAKwireless has been a key partner of Helium in creating reliable and top-class hardware capable of seamless connectivity. The goal of MNTD. by RAKwireless is to create a more accessible entry point for consumers to mine the cryptocurrency $HNT and help build The People’s Network.

MNTD. by RAKwireless Technology Co., Ltd. (RAK), a pioneer in wireless end-to-end solutions and IoT technology, announces today its launch in Europe and Canada.

MNTD. provides easy-to-use helium mining hardware to consumers.

MNTD. offers two new miners, one limited edition Goldspot Miner and the flagship Blackspot Miner. This launch follows the US release in early October that sold out in minutes. Despite a year of record chip shortages and setbacks, MNTD. has successfully supplied 41,000 units in the last few months.

The launch also expands The People’s Network, RAKwireless’ commitment and passion to make mining accessible for everyone, across the globe. Like the US launch, MNTD. will expedite shipments to crypto enthusiasts throughout the world and will forgo pre-orders, instead shipping as soon as inventory is available. The miners will be available in USD, CAD, and EUR.

RAKwireless CEO, Ken Yu added:

“It’s been a long time coming, but we’re excited to finally serve new locations and expand The People’s Network even further across the globe.”

RAKwireless has the most experience and credibility in the Helium Hotspot market. RAK manufactured the first Hotspot directly for Helium and has the most hotspots in the market today.

Earlier this year, Helium secured $111 million in a token sale led by Andreessen Horowitz. The decentralized peer-to-peer 5G wireless network is built from the Internet of Things (IoT) using blockchain technology. Donned “The People’s Network,” miner hotspot Helium enthusiasts users buy the equipment and host it at home to be able to mine crypto and access the network. It’s a quick ‘plug and play’ process, the whole experience of setting up a miner is possible in under 20 mins. The product is coupled around a modern reward system built around a kind of cryptocurrency, the Helium Token (HNT) that users can effectively mine for. Since 2020, RAK has been a key partner to Helium in creating reliable and top-class hardware to power Helium Hotspots.

Senet’s Network Now Reaches 2,000 Cities, New Coverage Map with Helium and Planning Tools

Senet, Inc., and Helium, today introduced new network visualization and planning tools to assist customers with deploying IoT solutions at scale across the United States.

Integrated Coverage Map

Through a previously announced network integration, Senet is providing its customers with LoRaWAN connectivity from Helium-compatible Hotspots under its Extended Coverage Services. Supporting this integration, Senet has enhanced its US Coverage Map to present a harmonized view of its public carrier-grade coverage and areas covered by more than 150,000 Helium-compatible Hotspots in the US.

This integrated and interactive network map empowers customers with planning information from the nation’s largest and fastest growing LoRaWAN network providers. The partnership increases Senet’s metro area coverage from 1,300 to over 2,000 cities and densifies coverage in major shipping ports, key logistics corridors, and major agricultural areas. It is the first US-wide LoRaWAN network and the only LoRaWAN network in the US designed, built and operated by US owned businesses.

Key attributes of the coverage map include:

  • Display of Senet and Helium coverage from a single map view, illustrating overlapping and extended coverage areas
  • Zip code search and zoom functionality, allowing users to view the coverage available at any location
  • Dynamic updating as new gateways and hotspots are deployed
  • Viewable on both web and mobile platforms

Enhanced Network Planning Tools

Senet has also updated its Application Provider Portal tools to further assist its customers with network coverage guidance and density information for application development and deployment planning. Through the click of a mouse, Senet customers can “drop a pin” on a network planning map. Subsequently, path quality to that location from the Senet network is automatically calculated and displayed along with the display of the number of Helium gateways in proximity to that location.

“Over our years of experience in IoT, we have learned very clearly that this is not a ‘build it and they will come’ network opportunity. Rather, each customer application requires flexible geographic coverage and various signal propagation models. As we partner with companies like Helium to deliver ubiquitous LoRaWAN network connectivity across the US, providing standardized coverage information and robust planning tools are increasingly important in delivering on the promise of flexible IoT connectivity where it is needed, when it’s needed, and at the right cost,” said Bruce Chatterley, CEO of Senet. “These tools will continue to gain functionality over time, serving as indispensable resources for developing, deploying, and managing IoT solutions at scale.”

Increased Data Traffic

The densified coverage areas where Senet and Helium networks overlap, combined with areas of Helium coverage where Senet is not yet deployed, offer immediate and measurable value to solution providers and end customers.

For example, even though Senet has deployed a LoRaWAN network across all five boroughs of New York City, one of Senet’s major customers experienced a 25% increase in connected asset reporting as a result of gaining access to Helium coverage through Senet’s network services.

“Completing our network integration with Senet was an exciting and important first step in our partnership,” said Amir Haleem, Helium’s CEO and co-founder.

“Now, with Senet’s expanded network visualization and planning tools, customers can more easily identify coverage areas, plan their connectivity requirements, and scale their solution deployments across Helium and Senet coverage areas.”
