Adding sensors to Smart Homes is expected to provide improved water protection and reduced insurance rates.
Eddy Home, the award winning manufacturer of residential water technologies, has collaborated with Semtech Corporation to introduce a leading Smart Home solution using LoRa® devices and wireless RF technology.
The solution gathers comprehensive insights into a home’s water usage and environment, providing subscribers immediate, real-time information if there is an issue.
Using LoRa Technology, a long-range, low-power wireless platform that enables the connectivity of Internet of Things (IoT) gateways and sensors, Eddy Home’s water protection solution can protect a home around-the-clock from slow leaks, burst pipes, and other unforeseen circumstances. The Eddy H2O sensors can detect leaks, changes in humidity and temperature trends so the user is alerted when trouble arises through the My Eddy Home mobile and desktop application. The integrated solution will be available mid-2017.
Eddy Home’s water protection solution currently has been installed in thousands of homes, resulting in savings of hundreds of thousands of dollars in home damage as many insurance providers offer reduced rates when a home is equipped with flood protection technology.
“We evaluated prevalent Smart Home IoT technologies and found them lacking, particularly with regard to range, connectivity, and battery life. With LoRa, our products now have significantly enhanced features that meet the needs of the market. Innovation in Smart Homes is the key towards Smart Infrastructure and Smart Cities, and we’re thrilled to have found a technology provider in Semtech,” commented Shawn Dym, President of Eddy Home.
“In the past ten years, Smart Home technologies have evolved,” said Vivek Mohan, Director of Marketing for Semtech’s Wireless and Sensing Products Group.
“LoRa Technology is an ideal solution for the Smart Home industry with its deep in-door penetration and low-power technology.”
